Parfois traduits par <em><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Infox\">infox<\/a><\/em> en fran\u00e7ais, ces deux mots anglais d\u00e9signent et d\u00e9noncent tout m\u00e9dia diffusant des informations erron\u00e9es dans le but de tromper ou de manipuler son lectorat. Library of Congress\u2019 Public Domain Archive<em>, 1910.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-virtue-primary-light-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\">De <em>media literacy<\/em> \u00e0 <em>information literacy<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 distinguer le vrai du faux, d\u2019apprendre \u00e0 faire bon usage des nouvelles formes que prennent les m\u00e9dias est appel\u00e9e dans la litt\u00e9rature scientifique <em>media literacy<\/em>, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire la comp\u00e9tence de chacun \u00e0 \u00ab&nbsp;<strong>d\u00e9coder<\/strong>, <strong>\u00e9valuer<\/strong>, <strong>analyser<\/strong> et <strong>produire<\/strong> \u00e0 la fois les m\u00e9dias imprim\u00e9s et \u00e9lectroniques. L\u2019objectif fondamental de la <em>media literacy<\/em> est une relation <strong>d\u2019autonomie critique<\/strong> avec tous les m\u00e9dias&nbsp;\u00bb (Aufderheide, 1993, p. 6, traduction et soulignement de l\u2019auteur). Autrement dit, il s\u2019agit de comp\u00e9tences intellectuelles que chaque individu poss\u00e8de lui permettant de mieux appr\u00e9hender les m\u00e9dias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais la notion de <em>literacy<\/em> ne se limite pas \u00e0 ces derniers&nbsp;: aujourd\u2019hui, certains chercheurs utilisent le concept d\u2019<strong><em>information literacy<\/em><\/strong> pour d\u00e9crire, dans un m\u00eame ordre d\u2019id\u00e9e, la capacit\u00e9 des individus \u00e0 comprendre et \u00e0 \u00e9valuer une information (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/acrl\/sites\/ala.org.acrl\/files\/content\/issues\/infolit\/framework1.pdf\">ACRL, 2016, p. 8<\/a>). En effet, les infox ne se limitent h\u00e9las pas aux m\u00e9dias et se retrouvent partout \u00e0 travers le web, ce qui complexifie grandement notre jugement&nbsp;: plusieurs \u00e9tudes conduites r\u00e9cemment d\u00e9montrent qu\u2019un nombre consid\u00e9rable de personnes, notamment des \u00e9tudiants, ont de la peine \u00e0 \u00e9valuer une information, \u00e0 comparer des sources ou ont tendance \u00e0 ne consid\u00e9rer que celles qui confirment leurs id\u00e9ologies politiques (<a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommons.uri.edu\/jmle\/vol10\/iss2\/2\/\">Damico et al., 2018, p. 13<\/a>). Ce probl\u00e8me se r\u00e9sout avant tout gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9ducation et \u00e0 la p\u00e9dagogie, qui devraient d\u2019avantage se concentrer sur le d\u00e9veloppement de l\u2019esprit critique en lien avec l\u2019utilisation des technologies informatiques (<a href=\"https:\/\/ojs.lboro.ac.uk\/JIL\/article\/view\/PRA-V15-I3-4\">Lupien, P. &amp; Rourke, L. Prenons en exemple une <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=P19ywkobLX8\">vid\u00e9o YouTube de la cha\u00eene am\u00e9ricaine PragerU<\/a>, cr\u00e9\u00e9e par le r\u00e9publicain Dennis Prager, intitul\u00e9e \u00ab&nbsp;Is There Really a Climate Emergency?&nbsp;\u00bb. Ici, une personne d\u2019autorit\u00e9, <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steven_E._Koonin\">Steve Koonin<\/a>, physicien et ancien sous-secr\u00e9taire du d\u00e9partement de la science pendant l\u2019administration de Barack Obama, nous d\u00e9montre que le r\u00e9chauffement climatique n\u2019est pas aussi probl\u00e9matique que l\u2019on veut nous faire croire, et qu\u2019il est insens\u00e9 de viser \u00e0 la suppression de l\u2019utilisation d\u2019\u00e9nergies fossiles. Si cette affirmation peut sembler erron\u00e9e d\u00e8s le d\u00e9part, l\u2019auteur s\u2019appuie pourtant uniquement sur la science pour la d\u00e9clarer&nbsp;: en effet, il soutient son propos en citant de v\u00e9ritables statistiques et des \u00e9tudes scientifiques publi\u00e9es par le Gouvernement am\u00e9ricain et par les Nations unies, et conclut que le monde \u00ab&nbsp;ne va pas si mal&nbsp;\u00bb. Que devrait-on alors penser&nbsp;? Le probl\u00e8me du climat est-il vraiment exag\u00e9r\u00e9 par la communaut\u00e9 scientifique&nbsp;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.hesge.ch\/blog-master-is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/prageru.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4088\" width=\"405\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/campus.hesge.ch\/blog-master-is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/prageru.png 583w, https:\/\/campus.hesge.ch\/blog-master-is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/prageru-300x160.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 405px) 100vw, 405px\" \/><figcaption>Texte extrait de la vid\u00e9o mentionn\u00e9e dans notre exemple, pr\u00e9tendant une \u00ab&nbsp;bonne&nbsp;\u00bb utilisation de la science.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Comme l\u2019indique <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/a-new-book-manages-to-get-climate-science-badly-wrong\/\">un article de presse r\u00e9cent<\/a> critiquant les id\u00e9es de Steve Koonin, le probl\u00e8me vient en partie de <strong>l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation<\/strong> que l\u2019on porte \u00e0 ces donn\u00e9es&nbsp;: par exemple, ce dernier mentionne que \u00ab&nbsp;les vagues de chaleur aux \u00c9tats-Unis ne sont aujourd\u2019hui pas plus fr\u00e9quentes qu\u2019elles ne l\u2019\u00e9taient en 1900&nbsp;\u00bb (traduction de l\u2019auteur). Cette affirmation d\u00e9pend enti\u00e8rement de ce que l\u2019on entend par \u00ab&nbsp;vague de chaleur&nbsp;\u00bb, et reste fallacieuse&nbsp;: il est bien plus important de s\u2019int\u00e9resser \u00e0 leur intensit\u00e9 et \u00e0 leur dur\u00e9e plut\u00f4t qu\u2019\u00e0 leur fr\u00e9quence. Ainsi, m\u00eame si l\u2019information pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e dans la vid\u00e9o est peut-\u00eatre bien vraie, elle ne permet pas de d\u00e9duire que les cons\u00e9quences du r\u00e9chauffement climatique ne sont pas graves pour la plan\u00e8te (le groupe d\u2019experts intergouvernemental sur l\u2019\u00e9volution du climat publie r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/reports\/\">des rapports<\/a> qui d\u00e9montrent ce propos).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rep\u00e9rer et remettre en question des informations falsifi\u00e9es sur internet s\u2019av\u00e8re \u00eatre une t\u00e2che particuli\u00e8rement complexe, surtout lorsqu&#8217;une interpr\u00e9tation critiquable de v\u00e9ritables donn\u00e9es est utilis\u00e9e pour appuyer des id\u00e9es&nbsp;; la vid\u00e9o de PragerU compte aujourd\u2019hui plus de huit cent mille vues, et des centaines de commentaires encensent son auteur. Alors, comment se prot\u00e9ger de telles pratiques&nbsp;? Il existe de nombreux <a href=\"https:\/\/bib.umontreal.ca\/evaluer-analyser-rediger\/fiabilite-information\">guides ou manuels<\/a> en ligne pour apprendre \u00e0 \u00e9valuer une information, qui proposent fr\u00e9quemment trois r\u00e9flexes importants : <strong>s\u2019informer sur son auteur<\/strong>, <strong>v\u00e9rifier son contexte de production<\/strong> et enfin <strong>comparer plusieurs sources<\/strong> pour avoir un regard plus large sur le sujet.
